Foundation Launch: Summer 2017

The Greater Sum Foundation was created in 2016 to enable early-stage innovators to create new solutions to old problems by providing the tools, connections, and assistance they need to realize effective solutions to significant and ongoing problems around the world. The Foundation’s network of volunteers stand ready to provide individual advice and counseling to non-profit leaders and assist organizations with strategic planning. Greater Sum Founder Todd Silverstein “had an epiphany and was inspired to create The Greater Sum by watching ABC's Shark Tank™. In the private equity investment world, motivated entrepreneurs turn to wealthy investors for financial capital and advice. These seasoned investors help entrepreneurs navigate the road to success by providing advice and counsel in addition to funding. This allows the entrepreneurs to focus on their core mission, without being distracted by any number of common issues organizations in their industry contend with."

The Greater Sum Foundation brings the adventurous spirit of angel investing to the non-profit sector, seeking to fund and support ideas that have the potential to significantly increase organizational impact in the foundation’s four focus areas of Education, Environment, Health, and Community Building. Silverstein describes the funding priorities of The Greater Sum as follows: “We will be supporting those who can execute on great ideas which have the power to significantly transform lives, are affordable to deploy and easy to adopt.”

Greater Sum grantees will receive both start-up funding of $10-25K and access to Greater Sum’s community of Subject Matter Experts in the fields of finance, law, information technology, data & analytics, medicine, product development, engineering, and business strategy. The first round grant application is available at www.thegreatersum.org/grants and applications are due by September 14th.
