Teetotal Initiative

Teetotal Initiative’s mission is to help individuals sustain sobriety and recovery through free, inclusive events, outings, and activities, like cooking classes, kayaking trips, arts and culture excursions, holistic workshops, and more.

Most people know someone in recovery, and finding ways to connect to like-minded people, explore new social environments, and enjoy activities that don’t center on alcohol or substances is essential for long-term success.

Since joining our events, participants have reported substantial improvements in key relapse triggers, rating themselves as "Better" or "Much Better" in areas like Isolation/Loneliness (66%), Boredom (71%), Sense of Belonging (76%), and Quality of Life (80%).

Our attendance has surged, with over 1,000 participants in 2024—a 500% increase over last year—and every event reaching maximum capacity. We are at a critical stage to sustain and grow our programming, and your support will enable us to create paid event management positions, ensuring our continued impact.

Will you support us by December 31 to help us keep providing meaningful, high-quality experiences for even more people, in more locations?

The Greater Sum provides strategic training and mentoring for early stage nonprofit innovators. We invest in organizations who are providing new solutions to old problems, and are ready to expand the scale of their impact. We share their stories so that other philanthropists like you have the opportunity to do the same. If you represent a grant-making organization and would like to be connected with these organizations, contact us directly and we’ll make an introduction! Individuals interested in connecting with Teetotal Initiative, please visit their website for more information.

The Greater Sum supports organizations that are scaling their impact, either by expanding their service area or by teaching other organizations to replicate their innovation. Why are we excited about the Promising Practices cohort? Because they’re graduates of our Financial Strategy incubator, we know they’re mapping out a plan for sustainable impact. When they applied for funding they created a Pitch Deck that describes the problem the organization was founded to address, the solution they have created, and resulting outcomes. We invest in teams; the pitch deck shows how the leadership of Teetotal Initiative is laying the groundwork for success.
